Data Visualization / Mapping
This informational map is a visualization of my relationship between sound, emotions, and place and emotions in the town of Cedar City, Utah. At first, the map appears chaotic, but as one looks longer, interesting connections and patterns begin to form, illuminating the powerful relationship between auditory stimuli and emotion.
For 3 weeks, I recorded every sound I heard, where I heard it, and the emotion I felt in conjunction with the sound. Each sound and emotion was rated on a scale of 1-5 (see key) and organized onto the map based on place.
The result is a graphic that displays many unique connections between sounds, emotions, and place. While this visualiztion was inherently personal, it can also be considered as an interesting look into how other people may process the world around them.
